Today we want to introduce you to Danny’s mom, Cathy. Cathy's company and United Way of Treasure Valley worked together and this year, and when we came to talk about giving, Cathy decided to share her story. She just recently learned how United Way of Treasure Valley is making it possible for Danny to have high quality preschool which helps her be able to work and earn.
A little bit about Danny--he is really into trucks and dinosaurs. He points out all the cranes and big trucks at the constructions sites around the valley and thinks they are just for him, which we think is adorable!
Cathy and Danny have relied on community programs and people to help them along the way, and still do. You see, Cathy is a single mom who works really hard at her job. But her job doesn’t pay enough to afford rent and child-care, so Danny stays with friends or a family member while Cathy is at work. Danny’s ready for preschool but they can’t afford it.
But recently, Cathy learned about United Way of Treasure Valley’s amazing work to help kids like Danny go to preschool so he can be ready for Kindergarten. Danny actually got a scholarship to high quality preschool and Cathy tells us he loves it! United Way of Treasure Valley is also making sure Danny has healthy food and snacks before and during school, and that local health services are available for Cathy at Danny’s school. As explained before, Cathy only recently learned that United Way of Treasure Valley has been like the conductor of the band, bringing all the programs together in a way that helped her the most.
It really does take a community to change the odds for people around us; people just like Cathy and her little Danny. And maybe even just like you. Cathy is giving a little bit from her paycheck each month because she wants to help others too. If you'd like to join her to become part of the United Way of Treasure Valley Community, click here.
