It's pretty incredible the caliber of people we've compiled for our Campaign Cabinet. We have CEOs, VPs, founders, co-founders, owners, and the list goes on and on. Today we are so excited to introduce you to Mr. Generosity himself, John Colgrove of Albertsons.
Tell us about being on the Campaign Cabinet. What motivated you to want to get involved?
Albertsons has a long history of supporting the communities and neighborhoods where our stores are located. We strive to carry on the rich tradition of our company’s founder, Joe Albertson, who had several simple philosophies that we continue to live by today. One is to ensure our customers have access to the resources they need to support their families. Another of Joe’s philosophies is to always give back to the communities where our customers and associates live and work. We strive to help build stronger communities by serving on community boards, dedicating volunteer hours and contributing to organizations that support our community where the need is greatest.
There are so many ways to give back and be involved with charitable organizations. Why do you choose United Way?
United Way identifies the biggest needs in the Treasure Valley and helps to bring people together to build stronger communities by providing a hand up, not a handout, to those who might be in need of assistance. Their focus on health, education and financial stability for every person in our community are the building blocks of a stable life for children and families.
Tell us a little about your role with your organization and what you do!
My role is Division President of Albertsons Companies Intermountain Division, leading a team whose priority is running great stores and providing the best shopping experience for our customers. Our division oversees 84 Albertsons and Safeway stores across 7 states. Each market is unique, and we run each store to reflect the needs of the community it is in. Our division office is located in Boise, which also happens to be where Joe Albertson started his first store in 1939. We are thrilled to have both Joe’s first innovative store, as well as our two new premium stores within our division.
What do you hope to achieve while being on the Cabinet?
Albertsons and United Way share the same mission of building a stronger community. I hope that my involvement in the Cabinet, because of our company’s passion to ensure our community has the resources they need to thrive, will help to make a difference for those in need among us. It takes everyone working together to make a difference. It takes a community!
